The Upili Peninsula is a strip of land extending northward from Zikal; it extends north to approximately 57ºS.
The northwest half is occupied by the Haven Reaches an area of steppes dotted with tiny groves of twisted trees and crossed by meltwater floodplains- the western edge of the peninsula, and a section of the interior, is kept ice-free by a warm water current. The name Upili- Varoqua, meaning 'they prosper'-is a reference to the fact that sustenance was possible at all within the reaches.
