A wooly, cow-sized herbivore, found all across Daramus. Tasaunts are commonly a cream-colour with a shaggy coat of tough white wool, which can be sheared and spun into tough fibrous ropes or finer threads for knitting heavy clothing. The animals have four cloven feet, a short hairy tail, and a rather long maned neck ending in a shaggy head reminiscent of an alpaca, although with curved ram-like horns. They travel primarily in herds of over fifty, and eat all manner of roots, herbs, grains and grasses, as well as nearly everything else on Xothu if so inclined. They seem to communicate with a series of calls that sound eerily like laughter, although deeper and more reminiscent of a honk than that of the average mirthful being.
At times Tasaunts are used as pack animals by traders from the City of Chronographers and the Musicians at The End of the World, but very rarely are they ridden, since they are intolerably slow when they have a mind to it. They do make excellently juicy roasts, though, especially when young. A stringy Tasaunt is practically unheard of. They have a life span of a good twenty years, and never lie down except to die. An old folk tale among the Musicians holds that they were once permitted by the gods to lie down, but abused their privileges by fallng asleep for decades at a time - and indeed, Tasaunts seem to enjoy sleeping almost as much as eating anything they can find.
