Mountain Dwarves
Forge flare, metal glow, hammer fall, weapon born.
- Dwarven forge-chant.
Overview
When people think Dwarf, they tend to think Mountain Dwarves.
Technically the term is incorrect - Dwarves prefer to live in and under mountains. But the name has stuck.
Mountain Dwarves have tan skin and brown or black hair. Their eyes tend to be blue and brown, but there is occasionally green eyes (superstitiously regarded to be the sign of a curse or great destiny).

Daily Life
In most mountain clans, males shave their beards when their wives become pregnant. This seems to indicate sympathy with the wife (childbirth for the rather dense and muscular dwarves is not pain-free, but considering the hardiness of the race, what counts as painful is hard to assess). A shaven male is treated with respect, and his wife's condition is often asked about.
Dwarven children never go homeless. The dwarves value children as childbirth is rarer than other races, and children are considered too valuable - somewhere between a great hope for the future and a great investment (to abandon a child to a dwarf would be like abandoning both family AND all all of one's tools). Many dwarf tales tell of a homeless dwarf child quickly adopted by others.
