Jellicles

Are you blind when you're born? Can you see in the dark?

Can you look at a king? Would you sit on his throne?

Can you say of your bite that it's worse than your bark?

Are you cock of the walk when you're walking alone?

Because Jellicles are and Jellicles do

Jellicles do and Jellicles would

Jellicles would and Jellicles can

Jellicles can and Jellicles do

When you fall on your head, do you land on your feet?

Are you tense when you sense there's a storm in the air?

Can you find your way blind when you're lost in the street?

Do you know how to go to the Heaviside Layer?

Because Jellicles can and Jellicles do

Jellicles do and Jellicles can

Jellicles can and Jellicles do

Jellicles do and Jellicles can

Jellicles can and Jellicles do

Can you ride on a broomstick to places far distant?

Familiar with candle, with book and with bell?

Will you be there at the end, like at the beginning?

Are you so blessed that you will never reach hell?

Jellicle Cats are queen of the nights

Singing at astronomical heights

Handling pieces from the Messiah

Hallelujah, angelical choir

- Famous Jellicle song

Practical cats, dramatical cats

Pragmatical cats, fanatical cats

Oratorical cats, delphioracle cats

Skeptical cats, dispeptical cats

Romantical cats, pedantical cats

Critical cats, parasitical cats

Allegorical cats, metaphorical cats

Statistical cats and mystical cats

Political cats, hypocritical cats

Clerical cats, hysterical cats

Cynical cats, rabbinical cats

- Jellicle poem describing some of the qualities of the race

Jellicles - sometimes Jellicle Cats - are a race of cat-people, distantly related to the Great Skull-Tigers. They are nimble, active, generally beautiful and very musical. They are also mostly very adept magic users.

Their equivalent of heaven is the Heaviside Layer, where righteous felines go to become angels. They have no hell in their religion - those who do not reach the Heaviside Layer remain as ghosts.

They are well known for riding bewitched broomsticks when they need to travel, as well as being able to detect changes in the weather.

They are primarily responsible for the downfall of the Pollicles.

For the record, I *love* Old Possum's book of practical cats- haven't seen the musical, though. Ah, well. Still, wish I'd thought to do something like this. As I said before, Nice.

The musical is fantastic - saw it in London a few months before it closed. Anyway, I was listening to the song yesterday and thought, "That's a pre-made race." I had to edit a couple of lyrics but it's mostly as it was.
