History

About the time of the Shattering of the Eye, a powerful Lilithian enchanter cast a spell across the Lilithian armies which would go on to be remembered as one of the Blessings of Lilith. Since then the spell has been used in every major war by the majority of the peoples of Xothu.

Description

The Incantation of the Forgotten Warrior is a spell to make sure no soldier dies unremembered. A wall of stone must be erected and the enchantment is put on that, and then on each soldier in the chosen army. If and when each soldier dies, his or her name will be carved into the wall by magic.

A lesser addition to the spell causes a Purple Willow to magically spring from the ground where the dead soldier falls. This has resulted in beautiful forests on the ancient battlegrounds.

Casting Time

If the caster already has a wall to use, the casting itself will take twenty seconds of speaking the Incantation. If not, a wall must be found or created before the casting can take place. This can take months (especially when using a wandering dwarf Contractor).

Spell Duration

Once cast, the spell on the soldiers remains until the war is over, or the soldiers are dismissed. The spell on the wall is infinitely lasting and the names will remain there. No natural form of erosion may end this.

Area of Effect

One army, and one moderate-to-huge wall.

Limitations

The size of the army upon which the spell can be cast on is limited to the size of the wall. Thus, a normal wall (say, the side of a building) will take up to five hundred names. A mountainside will take up to five hundred thousand names. More recently it's come to light that a more skilled user of magic can enchant smaller (though still very large, smaller only in comparison to a giant wall) surfaces with more names.

Casting Complexity

Anyone with a voice, hands, a slight knowledge of magic and a copy of the Incantation in written form may cast the spell.
